FSU Art professor with Drawing II students made a tour of Spring House and the grounds and then spent the afternoon doing drawings of different perspectives of the house. Photos were taken of a five foot oak snake on a large oak tree. It was a beautiful, warm day out in the woods.

Spring House Institute held a Celebration Fundraiser! featuring a preview of Pete Winter's beautiful, beginning documentary of Spring House use and restoration, with music composed for it by Wayne Gratz; a presentation by Kevin Schweizer on our progress and plans; fabulous food and drink; wine from Hotel Duval; music by the Fried Turkeys, and a silent art auction by FSU Art students & their professors! Thank you to our fine sponsors: Kevin Schweizer/Architect, CFM-NMS Fellows, Brad Roberts /Restorations, Armstrong Tree Service, Pete Winter/Winterstone Productions, and the Hotel Duval. Thank you also to our supportive friends at Tallahassee Trust for Historic Preservation. The Celebration was a great success, and everyone enjoyed the occasion! Friends came from as far away as New Symrna Beach, Florida and Columbus, Georgia!

We had our first non-profit table at a public function last weekend at LeMoyne's great annual Festival of Art! Saturday and Sunday were inspiring days for us as the community showed great interest, and support, for what Spring House Institute is doing! We look forward to making more new friends as we find other ways to introduce ourselves to the community!

Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Robert Olen Butler and renowned poet Erin Belieu shared with guests some of their writing at Spring House Institute's first fundraiser. The evening was a great success! Everyone enjoyed seeing the house, making new friends, sharing stories, and then hearing Erin's poetry that hit the spot, and being amazed at Robert's animated reading of his story! Fun was had by all and the fire was very welcome on a chilly evening.

Volunteers spread woodchips on the terrace from a large, double sweet gum tree that had to be removed because of its age, height and proximity to Spring House. Recent grading of the terrace needed a temporary cover for two April fundraisers.

FSU Art Adjunct with students from a class in Contemporary Art Foundations, an introduction to contemporary art for studio majors, visited Spring House and experienced the site. The final project is a studio-based research project. About 15 students and three professors attended. Some students may have their semester project in the end of April fundraiser. FSU volunteer staff removed two upright pianos that the Sculpture Studio will dismantle and turn into art, some may be in the April fundraiser. Winterstone Productions, making a documentary of the entire restoration of Spring House, made new film of the house as it is today.

FSU Art professor with students made a tour of Spring House to experience the "unity, simplicity and nature of materials," that Mr. Wright often spoke of. Students and their teacher looked at different spaces in the house suitable for their projects. Different shapes and sizes of customized S hooks made by the art department were tried in the horizontal seams of the Ocala block walls.

2nd Fireside Chat at Spring House was an informal gathering of educators, students, and community members who toured Spring House, met one another, discussed what's been happening since the 1st Fireside Chat, what's coming up in the near future, and new ideas for outreach. Winterstone Productions, making a documentary of the entire restoration of Spring House, filmed some of 2nd Fireside Chat.

FSU Art professor with students from digital foundations, sculpture/ceramics class made their second trip to Spring House to continue forming ideas for their projects this semester. They made this visit over their Spring Break. Several graduate students in sculpture also attended, and some potential grad students came along for the visit to Spring House.

FSU Art professors with students visited Spring House in the morning from a 2D design class, the second visit for them, and a first visit for a class in installations. About thirty students attended. All classes have toured the house and grounds and some have held class, while others extended the experience of the house and land their entire visit.

FSU Art professor with students from a painting and drawing class visited Spring House in the afternoon. Students enjoyed the house, walked the grounds and the dry stream bed to the spring head. Each found their spot to draw, inside or out, and will continue working on their piece. It was their last class before Spring Break. Art will be chosen by their professors for an end of April fundraiser from all classes that make the visit to Spring House.

FSU Art professor with students from digital foundations, sculpture/ceramics class made their first trip to Spring House to begin projects for classes this semester. About 30 students attended and several brought their parents to see the house. Art created by both professors and students will be available for purchase at an end of April fundraiser.

FSU Urban and Regional Planning professor held first class at Spring House. Students completed a site design/land use planning project.

FSU Department of Art Chair and eleven professors and adjuncts, toured Spring House with Spring House Institute Board members, after hearing a brief history and architectural description of the house. A discussion followed about the opportunity to have classes at Spring House this semester. Ideas were expressed about possible projects in the disciplines represented.

1st Fireside Chat at Spring House – Our 1st Fireside at Spring House was a very informal meeting and was open to all new ideas about potential of developing Spring House as a community resource. It was geared to the guests who attended and all enjoyed refreshments, sitting around the fire discussing different alternatives.
The Fireside Chat is a Taliesin tradition where Frank Lloyd Wright and his students sat around the fire, perhaps playing the piano, and talking about architecture and life.

1st Work Day and Celebration – Students from FAMU School of Architecture and FSU Department of Urban and Regional Planning and others volunteered to work: grading the terrace, removing invasive plants around the house, window washing inside and out, cleaning inside the house, cleaning interior woodwork, reworking the drainage at the entrance of the house, rocking the driveway. The work was followed by a Celebration with music, food, drink, and a short presentation about plans for fundraising, restoration and completion, and how the house will be used to benefit the public.
